History: Wiki || My Personal Written History
Personality:
Ichiru is a rather complicated teenager who has a lot of internal struggles with himself and everything around him. He seems to have conflicting feelings in regards to what he says and what he does, and often doesn't understand his own state of mind.
When he was younger, Ichiru was chronically ill. He was the kind of child that would get high fevers from short exposure to the cold. Physically, he was weak, yet mentally stubborn. "Seasons of Transience," from the Vampire Knight Light Novel: Ice Blue Sin shows this stubbornness. In the novel, he gets his parents to take him to where Zero was training so he could visit him. Ichiru was persistent on continuing his training with Zero to become a vampire hunter. He was passionate about what he wanted and made it clear that no matter what his condition, he was going to train with Zero. Ichiru wanted to be a hunter so he could walk the same path as his brother. Being a naive kid, he wished he could always stay with his brother but he wasn’t the only one training with Zero. Ichiru did not like Kaito very much because the older hunter in-training hurt him with his harsh words, reminding him of his physical condition and the reality he had to face everyday. His words hurt him so much because he couldn’t help being sick, never wanted it, and wished from the bottom of his heart to be healthy like everyone else.
Initially, Ichiru was very outspoken about his feelings, and often expressed them by smiling and laughing. Ichiru was very affectionate towards his brother, and would often hug and cling to him. Even at a young age, Ichiru knew Zero was gifted with hunter abilities, while he himself was not. He looked up to his big brother and always wanted to be as strong as him. During this time, Zero made his life bright, and Ichiru became overly attached to him and started saying that he wished he could be one with him. He talked about how incomplete he felt and how he didn't like being separated from him and at one point he even went as far as asking why he and Zero were born as separate beings. He was upset about it, and would often show it, but eventually, he started to feel differently and on occasions, he would keep a neutral expression making it hard to know what he was truly thinking. At this time, he started to build walls around himself and pushed his other half away, and it was at this point that his heart began to be clouded by darkness.
Even if he bottled up his emotions, Ichiru was quite expressive. He tended to lose control of himself and explode in the most inconvenient places. Later in the story, when he fought Zero, he angrily expressed everything he’d bottled up through his aggressive attacks. Even though he appeared to be the calmer of the two he was the more emotional one which can be seen in his interactions with others. For example, when Ichiru was with Shizuka, he wore a mask to hide his emotions because Shizuka could read them easily. The mask made it easier for him to speak to her without being flustered or overly emotional. Yet, when she was dying, she told him she was aware of his love for her and Ichiru became extremely upset that she had known about it all that time yet never said anything.
Ichiru had always been envious of his brother. He loved him, but he was jealous of the fact that Zero was stronger and that he was weaker in the eyes of everyone. It was not just people like Kaito, but also those within the Hunter Association. They knew Ichiru wasn’t as gifted as Zero and he was always compared to him. In a way, Ichiru formed a rivalry complex with Zero and hated being compared to him. The older he got, the more he was aware of his situation, and the more Zero protected him. Yet, instead of feeling love for his brother’s attempt, it only made him realize what kind of burden he was to him especially when his physical condition didn't get any better. At this point, the brother he used to look up to was starting to become someone he hated. He started to say words and phrases he knew would hurt Zero. He was aware Zero had always felt guilty that he had been the healthier of the two, and he knew how protective and caring his brother was of him. Ichiru believed Zero worked extra hard to make up for his deficiencies. He was a shackle that kept his brother prisoner. He also understood that when he behaved cruelly towards Zero, he felt more connected to him because they were born from one egg and at those times when Zero was hurting, he felt complete.
By coincidence Ichiru and Zero ran into Shizuka Hiou, a Pureblood vampire. Ichiru was immediately infatuated with her beauty and sadness, and eventually went out on his own to see her. He learned that Shizuka was just as lonely and empty as him. She didn't have a place in the world which resonated with him since he honestly believed he didn’t either. He also felt they mutually understood the emptiness they felt about their own existence. Ichiru decided to stay by Shizuka's side because he felt that was where he belonged. This led to the tragic end of his parents. Ichiru had always shown love towards his parents, but he misinterpreted their intentions when he caught them speaking about him one night. They spoke about how he and Zero would not be able to walk the same path because Ichiru was unfit to be a vampire hunter.
Those words were a blow to him, and with those emotions stirring inside, he approached Shizuka and helped her murder his parents and turn Zero into a vampire. It was later revealed that Ichiru did what he felt was right because his parents had killed Shizuka's lover and that same night returned to hug their children with the same hands that had killed another. He was disgusted by those actions and assumed that because they thought he was unfit to be a hunter that he was useless, which wasn't the case. Ichiru hated that his parents were bound by the rules of the hunter society and hated the Hunter Association for what gave them the right to deem the value of someone based on their physical condition? Despite living a short time in their world, Ichiru was well aware of how the Hunter Association worked. Ichiru also didn't like that his parents had looked at him with eyes of the Hunter Association. After he learned of Rido's involvement in the death of Shizuka's lover, he didn't seem to share any remorse about what he had done to his parents. Later as he lay dying, he did confesse that he hadn’t really wanted them to die.
Generally, Ichiru is more social than his brother in appearance, and is the more talkative and expressive of the two. When he was at Cross Academy for a short time, his classmates were able to get along with him much better than Zero because of his soft spoken and polite manner of speaking. His expressions were much gentler than Zero’s, and a friendly air always surrounded him. He was kind but also feigned it, and was capable of being quite cruel. Ichiru wasn't a good person, and was, in his own right, quite manipulative. He would do what needed to be done in order to obtain what he wanted.
Ichiru was also better at taking action more than Zero and often criticized his brother for his decisions such as the time he spoke to Zero about Yuuki, who seemed too nosy about their business. He told Zero how his taste in women had changed. Later, he put a sword to Yuuki's throat when she attempted to break up their fight, and when Yuuki called him out to speak to him privately. He stated that she wasn't aware of her situation and was causing a lot of worry for his brother. He also implied that Yuuki was stupid and had no sense of self preservation. He stated that she caused worry for Zero. In a way, Ichiru himself appeared to be jealous of her, and concerned about Zero's well being. Ichiru himself was sometimes possessive of his brother and did not appear to appreciate sharing him with other people. Ichiru also proved that he wasn't as hesitant as Zero about killing people when he so easily put that sword to Yuuki’s throat. In a way, he was much more cold blooded than Zero.
Ichiru found a hobby in harassing his brother when he had time. One of the extra panels in the manga had him dressed up as a girl due to his classmates' request and pretended to be Zero. He made a grim face like Zero and attempted to imitate him while wearing a girl’s wig and the Day Class uniform belonging to the female students. Even though he acted close to the students at Cross Academy, Ichiru kept his distance from people because he himself did not understand what it meant to have friends or people that he could rely on. When he was younger, he was always bedridden and sick, and his family was always moved around. It was hard for a sickly boy to even attempt make friends or go to school when they were just going to move shortly. Ichiru spent most of his time torturing his brother mentally, knowing that despite all he’d done, his brother wouldn't hate him for it. He would always be forgiven. However, when Ichiru was dying, he was afraid that he’d lost his place in Zero’s heart because of all the cruel things he had done to him. He also admitted that he felt the safest when he was in Zero's embrace.
Ichiru loathed his existence and struggled to find strength. Ichiru always hated himself for being weak and for being unable to do the things he wanted to do in the past. He wanted power to prove to others that he was useful and that he was capable of doing everything. Ichiru was always frustrated with himself when he was younger. He had long given up on being a hunter and instead immersed himself in the vampire world because he chose to stay by Shizuka's side. Somewhere along the way, he began to love her. He loved her very much and he was willing to do what he could to protect her because Shizuka gave him a place where he belonged and she cured him of his illness when she offered her blood to him. Ichiru was quite fascinated with vampires, it was clearly obvious in the way he talked about them. He, at some point, stated that vampires were like gods with their god like abilities that could give others power and cure illness. He always said that Shizuka was a kind person who helped him and in the bitter end, she cherished him enough to keep him human. Being by Shizuka's side became his purpose in life and he was content existing for her. He told Zero that he didn't have to forgive Shizuka for what she had done, but asked him not to hate her because she had always treated him kindly.
Ichiru didn't appreciate that she refused to turn him into a vampire. He didn't want to accept Shizuka's reasoning to keep him human. He loved her enough to give his very being to her. He always told her she could take his blood and she could turn him. He'd get stronger by becoming a vampire and he would be able to protect her. He could live with her forever and never change. Ichiru really wanted to be a vampire, yet no matter how much he tried, he was never changed. Even when Shizuka was killed by Kaname, Ichiru still clung to her. He was so engrossed with her that he shed tears for her. In the end, he met his own demise by his own recklessness.
He attempted to gain revenge for Shizuka by killing the Pureblood that led her to her death. Not knowing that Kaname had a hand in her demise, Ichiru assisted in the resurrection of Rido Kuran who he believed was the one responsible for her fall. He waited until Rido was healed by Kaname, and struck Rido with Shizuka’s blade in an attempt to kill him. Unfortunately, he was not strong enough and was severely injured in the process. Yet, even though he failed, Ichiru was a lot smarter than he let on as well. He found his way into the Vampire Society and made himself a protector of Rido Kuran all on his own. Ichiru went as far as proving he was loyal to Rido just so he could get his revenge. Given the right situation and place, Ichiru can be a very loyal person. He is devoted to whoever he is attached to and it shows with his own engagements with Shizuka and when he pretended to be loyal to Rido. Ichiru is much more cunning than he lets on.
In the story, Ichiru appeared to have had rather neutral feelings towards Kaname Kuran, however, he did not like being part of his chessboard, yet the situation was inevitable in the end. Ichiru had, in more ways than one, became a chess piece that served its purpose for Kaname. Ichiru also showed interest in Maria Kurenai when Zero told him about her concern for him, and showed hesitance at the mention of her name. Furthermore, Ichiru’s relationship with Chairman Cross was stiff. He found the Chairman to be quite creepy, and the former vampire hunter grated on his nerves. He was easily affected by how annoying Cross was in the side stories.
Abilities:
Weapon(s): Collapsible Sword | Katana (most of the time it’s Shizuka’s). Ichiru's most used weapon is the collapsible blade that's hidden in his coat. It comes together when he pulls it from his coat sleeve. It's a weapon that can easily parry a sword. On the other hand, Ichiru is capable of using Japanese Swords. As an added bonus, Ichiru spent time training under Yagari Touga, to become a vampire hunter. His previous training that would allow his current self to be quite the opponent. Ichiru can use swords with his left and right hand.
Pureblood's Blood: A Pureblood's Blood is considered to have healing traits and because Ichiru drank from Shizuka, he was cured of his chronic illness. He is healthy and strong because of the blood vampire's blood that flows in his veins.
Perception: Ichiru is very perceptive of the things around him. He often is very aware of his situation and able to judge when things become a little complicated, such as stopping Zero when he and Shizuka were about to start fighting, and being aware of Yuuki's condition to which he didn't need to use Ridou's blood on.
Self Defense: He is physically capable of defending himself due to the nature of him spending four years as Shizuka's bodyguard. He himself had enough training in the four years with Shizuka so he could protect her.
Speed: In the manga, he's proven to be very agile and quick on his feet. It's show through his fighting that he could keep up with a temporarily uncertain Zero.
Aim: Ichiru's aim is a bit interesting, only because he was able to strike a Japanese Sword through Zero's arm perfectly in order to stop him from hurting Shizuka and firing a gun at a non moving target from a distance.
Guns: Ichiru has the basic knowledge of loading and shooting a gun.
Humanities: According to the fan book, he's not much of a studious student, but Ichiru excelled in Humanities as a subject.

It must be rather fun to bring back the dead, ne?
I am rather curious to how many residents here have been brought back from the dead, including myself? It's quite troublesome to be rudely awoken, don't you agree?
Hello, my name is Ichiru Kiryuu.
If you have seen an individual who goes by the name of Zero Kiryuu, please direct him my way. I assume he will be rather frantic in searching for me otherwise, but that might be cute.
I am still trying to understand the purpose of such a place, perhaps the residents here would like to tell me the specific details that I have yet to know. It would be very much appreciated. However, I do not have much to offer as token of my appreciation other than a thank you.
Regards,
